Good News

  • Friends House Ministries: This week, I heard a gentleman named Monty Reeves share a story about a mission he is leading here in Chattanooga. Friends House Ministries helps men recover from addiction, secure affordable housing, learn new skills, and find employment. Monty had just returned from visiting a prison, where he spoke with men eager to rebuild their lives, re-enter the workforce, and reunite with their families. Currently, the organization operates four homes that provide housing for 32 men, with plans to expand further. Learn more about their mission here: Friends House Ministries.

  • Chattanooga River Market: The River Market will be open this weekend! This is an event I love attending a few times a year here in Chattanooga. If you're looking for unique local crafts, live music, and a great atmosphere, check out what’s happening at the market here: Chattanooga Market | River Market.

  • Crafter’s Emporium and Book Exchange Giving Back:
Joann Dunegan, the owner of Crafter’s Emporium and Book Exchange, recently reached out to The Scoop to share a heartfelt message about her store’s charitable efforts. For over two years, Crafter’s Emporium has partnered with the nonprofit organization Extended Arms to support those in need. The store collects donations from customers and uses the funds to purchase essential hygiene products, including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, first aid kits, lotion, sunscreen, deodorant, tissues, rain ponchos, socks, gloves, blankets, and hats. These items are assembled into care bags and distributed to the homeless downtown.

In addition to hygiene kits, the store also puts together snack bags and donates funds to Extended Arms to help purchase discounted McDonald's gift cards for those in need.

To support these efforts, Crafter’s Emporium hosts special fundraising events, such as Hot Diggity Dog Day and charity bingo.

“Giving back to our community has been very important to me since our store opened three years ago,” Joann shared.

Her dedication to making a difference is a great reminder of the impact small businesses can have in their communities. Learn more about Crafter’s Emporium here: Crafter Emporiums Website
